Jason’s baptism into music started as a DJ playing at parties for family and friends. By the time he was 15 he was DJ’ing Professionally at various Night Clubs – keeping a very low profile from i.d. inspectors and his parents alike! At the same time he became interested in how music was made and struck up a relationship with a local studio owner and began dropping-in to remix, write, produce and engineer for local artists. One song that he wrote and Produced even became a No.1 Single in South Africa. From there Jason became Chief Engineer at the legendary Battery Studios in London and suddenly found himself as the favoured Engineer for all the Jive Records artists coming through the UK including Groove Armada,. Kealer, Emma Holland and Jason Downs.
When Battery closed in 2004 Jason tried his hand at A&R working with Jive but within weeks was longing for the studio and jumped at the opportunity to mix the Basement Jaxx smash “Oh My Gosh”. Following a chance introduction to Marius De Vries they struck-up a vibrant relationship that lead to Jason Engineering and Programming on all his UK productions including helping steer the mixing and post-production of David Gray’s “Slow Motion”.
In 2009 Jason enjoyed many plaudits for his work on Lisa Hannigan's 'Sea Sew' which was nominated for a Mercury Award, and won him a Nomination as Best Breakthrough Producer from the Music Producers Guild (MPG). From there Jason Produced the debut album for acoustic artist John Smith - recording a large percentage outdoors on the road in the U.S.A. He also spent many months as sound editor on the brilliant movie 'Kick Ass'. Now developing some new artists Jason's intimate and supportive Production style are bringing him a lot attention as a new Producer. |
