Jason Boshoff

Writer / Engineer / Programmer / Mixer / Remixer

Jason’s baptism into music started as a DJ playing at parties for family and friends. By the time he was 15 he was DJ’ing Professionally at various Night Clubs – keeping a very low profile from i.d. inspectors and his parents alike! At the same time he became interested in how music was made and struck up a relationship with a local studio owner and began dropping-in to remix, write, produce and engineer for local artists. One song that he wrote and Produced even became a No.1 Single in South Africa. From there Jason became Chief Engineer at the legendary Battery Studios in London and suddenly found himself as the favoured Engineer for all the Jive Records artists coming through the UK including Groove Armada,. Kealer, Emma Holland and Jason Downs. When Battery closed in 2004 Jason tried his hand at A&R working with Jive but within weeks was longing for the studio and jumped at the opportunity to mix the Basement Jaxx smash “Oh My Gosh”. Following a chance introduction to Marius De Vries they struck-up a vibrant relationship that lead to Jason Engineering and Programming on all his UK productions including helping steer the mixing and post-production of David Gray’s “Slow Motion”.

During 2006 Jason helmed the console at the legendary Egrem Arieto Studio in Havana (Cuba) on two tracks that Marius masterminded for the Guantanamero OST, one of which features Roisin Murphy – soon after that Jason mixed five tracks from the current Basement Jaxx album “Crazy Itch Radio” – two of which became singles. At the close of the year Jason will be mixing an album for New York Electro-clashers Shy Child, the track “Coming Up For Air” for ex-Sugababe Siobhan Donaghy as well as the debut album for Thomas Troelsen’s new band ‘Private’.Look out for future works with DJ Hannah Holland too.
